2 Week Notice
Review Rating Score
A two weeks’ notice letter is a professional and concise way to inform your employer that you have decided to resign and leave the company. This usually is the standard time for resignation in most workplaces. You might be able to find it written somewhere in your employment contract.
How to write a 2 week notice?
When writing your notice to your employer, consider the following:
1. Be to the point: There's no need to beat around the bush. Be definitive when crafting the first line; do not mislead your employer by implying you may re-consider your decision to resign if given a better counter offer. You may consider doing that to dull the blow, but it's best to be as clear as possible.
2. You don't have to state why you're resigning: This is especially important if the working relationship did not end on friendly terms. But generally, there really is no need to state your reasons for resigning. You could state the reasons when you meet with your direct supervisor, manager, or company owner.
3. Be formal and friendly: Maintaining utmost professionalism and respect even while you're resigning is important. Address your manager or direct supervisor by his or her title and last name. The tone of your resignation letter must be formal but not stiff. If you and your manager had a particularly friendly relationship, do not incorporate funny anecdotes or innuendos.
4. Keep a positive tone: This will be the last letter you will ever file to your employer. Even if you had a very turbulent relationship and things got personal and heated, stay kind and positive. Remember, this letter could be the last impression you leave with the company. If your prospective employer calls up your previous employer, you would want them to receive positive feedback about you.
