Our businesses rely on consistency and when threatens to change, we can't always accept that with open arms. When a hardworking employee resigns without giving notifying you ahead of time, for example. It's abrupt and not an easy pill to digest, because this person is a valuable member of your team. But accepting it is the only way to go.
What to say to an employee who quits without notice?
When an employee verbally expresses their intention to resign, it is best practice that you, as the employer, ensure that the details of the resignation are promptly followed up with a formal, written resignation letter. The employer should then make sure to have the employee sign off on the acknowledgment of their resignation's acceptance and their final date of employment. Additionally, the employer should attempt to get a reason, in writing, for the employee's resignation if that hasn't already been given.
