Age-based Vaccination Schedule
Review Rating Score
As a responsible parent, you want the best for your child, and that includes keeping them healthy and protected. One of the most important aspects of ensuring your child's well-being is to stay up-to-date with their vaccination schedule. Proper vaccination helps prevent the spread of infectious diseases, protecting not only your child but also the community they live in.
What is the Vaccination Schedule?
The vaccination schedule is a timeline that outlines the recommended vaccines to be given to a child from birth to adulthood. The schedule is typically based on the guidelines established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and is designed to ensure maximum protection against disease. Vaccinations are typically given at different ages, with some vaccines requiring multiple doses.
The CDC recommends several types of vaccines for children, including:
- Hepatitis B: usually given at birth
- DTap (Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis): usually given at 2, 4, and 6 months, with additional doses at 12-18 months and 4-6 years
- Poliovirus (IPV): usually given at 2, 4, and 6-18 months, with additional doses at 4-6 years
- Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib): usually given at 2, 4, and 6 months, with additional doses at 12-15 months
- Rotavirus (RV): usually given at 2, 4, and 6 months
- Pneumococcus: usually given at 2, 4, and 6 months, with additional doses at 12-15 months
- Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR): usually given at 12-15 months, with a second dose at 4-6 years
- Varicella (Chickenpox): usually given at 12-15 months, with a second dose at 4-6 years
- Hepatitis A: usually given at 12-23 months, with a second dose 6-18 months later
- Meningococcal: usually given at 11-12 years, with a booster at 16 years
- Human Papillomavirus (HPV): usually given at 11-12 years, with additional doses given within 6 months-1 year after the first dose
